The Design
After dinner we decided to work upstairs in the den/office/sitting area/dressing room/tv room/reading room/computer room instead of working with the laptop downstairs. I figured that while the design was going to be a joint effort, it would mostly be me doing all of the computer stuff – such as using Visio to create the blueprints. After taking measurements for what would fit in the turtle area (yes, that's what we call the entire third floor landing) and comparing that to what Maya needs, the design process began. Without boring everyone, a couple of hours later the first version of Maya's new home was designed. Of course over the next several days and multiple revisions later, the final blueprint was created.
The design includes three large rectangular openings in the top for lighting and heating devices with one of these openings located in a larger removable lid. This opening is what will allow us to gain access into her home; I guess it's the front door now that I think of it. In addition to these larger rectangular openings, there are four rectangular openings on the lid for ventilation purposes. There are also round openings of various sizes throughout. Three located on the top for misting equipment (remember that Maya needs a constant high-humidity), one on the bottom for drainage and finally six on the back for future needs.
