The Birth of Fishie

August 11, 2006 @ 5:00 pm ·

Many may wonder why I would name my brand new 2006 Murano “Fishie”. Odd name…Fishie… not many people go around naming their vehicle after an animal. The story of the name “Fishie” started a long while ago.

Have you ever just seen a car or truck and said to yourself “That is the car I want!”…That is what happened to me 3 or 4 years ago when I really started to like the Murano. The size, the shape, the overall look of the truck was and still is so smooth to me, it just flows…

Being the proud owner of a 1997 Saturn SC2, the possibility of owning a Murano was just a dream, really nothing more than a dream. Living on my own, having the responsibility of bills, and all the other things that go a long with being independent, the possibility of becoming a proud owner of a Murano stayed a dream.

During this period of my life, I was the Corporate Trainer at American Executive Centers (AEC). I had my very own office, even if it was miles away from the rest of the AEC Staff, I did have my own office! The rest of the staff were located on the opposite side of the suite, I had a few client neighbors, who I said daily “hellos” to but being alone and often forgotten about down in “no mans land”, I came up with the brilliant idea to get a FISH! He’d keep me company for sure!!!

So I purchased a blue Betta Fish, brought him into the office and he sat on my desk. I named him Murano for I had decided that I would never ever have the opportunity to own the “Dream” and my fishie would be my Murano!

Having a fish in my office worked great until I had to travel for long periods of time. The Corporate Training position is a funny position, meaning you are not only a trainer you are also responsible for “filling in” when a receptionist is on vacation or sick. Now a one day thing isn’t all that bad, those of you who are familiar with fish know they do not need the attention that a dog or a child need. They can go a day or two without being fed. However, when the famous email comes to me requesting me to cover a center for a Maternity Leave, or to train someone new, this is going to mean being gone from my office in “no mans land” for more than one or two days…  I’ll be gone weeks or even months!!!

With this issue at hand I came to rely on AEC “volunteers” to help me out with caring for Murano. Susan, our Front Desk receptionist at that time, took Murano and his little fishie bowl and placed him on the front desk. He had many admirers and onlookers each day, much more attention then he was used to getting while being in “no mans land” with me!

When I decided to make the very short lived career change, I decided to leave Murano with AEC. He had so many people who came accustom to checking in on him from time to time, not to mention the fondness many AEC employees had towards him. Ryan took over all the parental responsibilities. I packed up Muranos little glass bowl, fish food, and spare water and he moved into Ryans office. Ryan kept telling me that he was “Fish Sitting” and he was only watching over Murano, I think Ryan had a gut feeling I would be returning.

Sure enough in less than 3 weeks I was back at AEC, only this time in the Accounting Department taking the role of HR & Payroll Administrator. Ryan had Murano waiting on my desk when I walked into my office on my first day back. He still sits on my desk. I did get him a new Betta Tank, which I would say holds about a 1/2 gallon of water. He is happy and has become our Accounting Mascot!

When Josh and I went car shopping and stopped at the Nissan Dealership, I still felt there was no way I was going to drive off the lot with a Murano, but I did…and my brand new Murano took the name FISHIE! So now I have two Muranos and two Fishies! What more could a girl want!! Josh, thank you for making my Dream car (truck) a reality!

As I have said, it is now time to come up with a new Dream!
