Yeah silly I know… first there was "American Idol" (AI) I got sucked in…. Bo, I just had to have his cd and then Taylor and Catherine this past season. Come spring of 2006, what were we going to watch the "AI" season was over!!!!
We saw many upon many previews for "So You Think You Can Dance" a tv show who's premise is everyday people who think they can dance. The contestants try out in front of judges and in the end are competing to be the one dancer remaining!
The overall thought is basically the same as "AI", the judges travel nationwide and have tryouts in big name cities across the United States. Some contestants receive "Golden Tickets" which get them an immediate entry to the next level of auditions. Auditions include dancing many different genre of dance… anything from Hip Hop to the Salsa! This is where things get exciting and you grow a real liking towards some contestants!!!!
After many weeks of tryouts, seeing some really great dancers along with some people who apparently aren't looking at themselves in the mirror, we have our final 12 dancers. Each person is paired up with someone from the opposite sex. This isn't an individual competition, although it is and only one person will be crowned the winner of "So You Think You Can Dance", for the first few weeks of the competition you as the voters will be voting for the "couple" you like the most!
Every Wednesday night the show begins with each set of dancers dancing whichever dance they chose from out of the hat the week before. Literally, each duo chooses what dance they will learn and perform in-front of millions of people on national television. You have to remember that most of these dancers come into this competition only knowing and being able to dance one kind of genre. So picking Contemporary out of the hat when you have a Pop background may be very difficult. Not to mention you have to take into consideration your partner. Never fails each duo pulls off their routine – some better than others, but overall, they all look fabulous!
At the end of the show Wednesday night, phone numbers are given so the viewers can vote on who they think is the best couple. Come Thursday night the results are given and whomever the 2 lowest voted for couples are will dance solo routines to "Fight for Their Lives" to stay another week! Of course it is a nail biting hour where many upon many commercials are taken and then in the end the male with the lowest number of votes and the female with the lowest number of votes leave the competition.
Now we are down to the final four couples waiting for Wednesday evening (do to football the final show was not aired on Thursday night)..One of the four final competitors will be crowned the winner of "So You Think You Can Dance" winning the opportunity to dance along side of Celine Dion in her up and coming musical.
With the end of the season right around the corner we are wondering what will be the next thing out there… first singing, then dancing, they even had comedy and a talent show this summer running opposite of "So You Think You Can Dance"… just makes you wonder what will be out there next!

How about “So you think you can read?” or “So you think you can walk and chew gum at the same time?”. I can see these types of shows will eventually come to the airwaves… Or digital cable box, which ever “you think you can” handle.

BENJI is the “So You Think You Can Dance” Champion!!!! All in all I am happy, but would have really enjoyed seeing Travis win!!!
