Halloween Drink-a-Thon

October 28, 2006 @ 8:59 pm ·

The dogs are at home all caged up and we’re out on the town drinking ourselves to oblivion while all-the-time knowing we’re going to get in our car and drive home hammered.  Woohoo – wish you were there don’t you!!!

Okay – most of that isn’t true.  Do you really think we would call our Critters “dogs” anyway?  Geez, and we really thought we knew you.  We’re really offended.  No, really.  Sigh.

A few days ago Sonia and Monte asked us if we wanted to join them on their development’s yearly Halloween Bar Tour.  While neither of us are really ‘spend our entire night at a bar’ type people, we figured that spending the evening with Sonia and Monte would be a great time as we always seem to have fun when hanging out with them.   Because Sonia said that only a few of the 40 so people that were attending we going to dress up, we decided to go in normal clothing; not to mention that we also don’t have any costumes.

While waiting at the Harrison’s (um, this is Sonia and Monte) house for the bus to arrive, we admired Monte’s costume plus picked make-shift costumes for the both of us which Sonia thankfully supplied.  Pirate Monte was truly authentic, from the scruffy pirate’s beard down to the earring – yes Monte, the left ear is the correct ear – he looked great.  After waiting around for about thirty minutes, the bus – a big yellow school bus – finally arrived.  We donned our costumes – Jamaica Josh and Maskie Megan – then braved the rain and hopped on board.

Initial thoughts once on the bus:

  • OMG – everyone on the bus is wearing a costume.  Thanks Sonia.
  • How in the world did we comfortably fit on a school bus every day going to school?  These seats are horrible!
  • Three coolers filled with beer – these people can party.
  • It’s amazing that all these people get along so well – why are we stuck with “talky-talk noisy rug shaker” and the Invisibods?

Walking into the first bar we received odd looks from the bar folk, however some were interested in just what we were all up to.  After all, over 40 people – most of whom were wearing costumes ranging from Superman and Wonder-woman to “The Captain” and Penn State’s Joe Paterno – just got off a big yellow school bus at their local hangout.  They soon realized we meant no harm and were here to have a good time!

After having a few drinks, some bar food and great conversation, we left Whitpain’s Tavern and headed to Reed’s.  Reed’s was more of a bar/nightclub then Whitpain’s, meaning there was a live DJ, multiple bars, a large dance floor and a cover band.  Their drink selection was rather impressive:  beer, beer, more beer and maybe a bottle of Merlot somewhere in the back.  Of course one of our folk wanted that bottle of Merlot – wonder who that was?  Monte.  We enjoyed staying at Reed’s for a little over an hour and then departed for a smaller bar, Brother Paul’s.  The Brother Paul’s experience was very short lived.  Everyone off the bus, everyone used the bathroom, everyone realize how dead the bar is except for “The Pimp” who had to chug his beer, everyone back on the bus.  At this point it was back to Sonia’s development as night was mostly over.  Chuck, the scary evil clown, invited everyone back to his house to continue the night but, since we had a 20 minute ride ahead of us and Floppie and Ebony were at home we decided to pass.

Being that both of us aren’t really bar people and didn’t know anyone except for Sonia and Monte, we really had a great time.  Not only was spending time with Sonia and Monte great, but most their neighbors treated us like they’ve known us for years.  It was a great time!

And for all of you worrying mothers at home, we didn’t drink that much.  We limited our drinking to four beers each over the entire night and by the time we needed to drive home it was like we didn’t have any drinks that night at all.  So there, we are mature after-all.

Thanks, you made me proud. So glad you had a fun evening. And no matter what we moms will always worry, even though i try not to use that word, about our ‘youngn’s’. Be wise, “always keep your heads about you”

Here I was already to talk about the 20 minute ride home, with no bus driver, and “Bang” you come through like a grown up Rabbit!

…….but you’ll always be my little Bunnies! 🙂
