Now that it is Friday November 3rd, I figured I better get with it and fill everyone in on our 2nd Halloween at 516 Upland!
In 2005 we had such great weather that we sat out on the front steps (Josh I know it is a porch in your eyes), and celebrated Halloween by enjoying the weather, our neighbors, and all the Trick or Treaters! Since the weather was just as nice this year, if not nicer, we decided we would sit out front again. We got all 9 bags of candy, Floppie and Ebony, and a blanket and out front we went to greet our Treaters!
Oh what fun and oh what a lot of children we have in our area!! I would approximate around 100 children walked onto 516 that night and believe it or not mostly young children and only a few teenagers. I guess the Trick or Treating phase for teenagers has lessened, at least in our area.
We had a variety of different costumes. My favorite was a little girl around the age of 3 who was dressed as a little pumpkin! She was just the cutest little pumpkin around! We had a number of princesses, a cute little fireman, a Unicorn, and also a lot of “Themed” Costumes (from movies, kids shows etc)
The highlight of the night was when a group of children with their parents came around. They went to our neighbors house (the one who is nosey) and she was making each and every child tell her who they were and give her a hug (yes she is crazy..) well when this particular group of children were at her house, one of the mothers yelled to her child “Take a piece, say thank you, and run”… Josh and I could hear her and just started laughing, for you see “Talky-talk Nosey Rug Shaker”, can’t hear either, so when you speak to her you have to yell in order for her to hear what you are saying and even then she may not hear you correctly!
While we laugh at “Talky-talk Nosey Rug Shaker” for being the way she is, really it is great that the community we live in takes such an interest in this particular holiday. It is nice to be part of a neighborhood that sit outside and greet the “little spookers” and make them feel special. I for one have never been a big Halloween fan and still really am not, but we have had an absolute blast 2 years now and hopefully next year will be just as much fun it not more!
Happy Fall!!!

The kids want the candy.
The parents want the compliments on the costumes.
Sorry Josh, but “Yes, you two were sitting on the front steps”.
It is want it is….. and it’s not a porch!
