The Creation of Ice Man

February 16, 2007 @ 10:28 pm ·

Tuesday it started snowing in the afternoon and as soon as we got home Josh decided to shovel the driveway thinking that the snow might stop that night.  Well, it didn’t.  Waking up Wednesday morning – Valentine’s Day – Josh decided to shovel the driveway again in order to get Fishie out of the garage in order to get into work.  We didn’t go into work and about 30 minutes later the driveway was again covered.  After snuggling on the couch for most of the day, Megan mentioned to Josh that maybe we should shovel the driveway now so we’re ready for work in the morning.  Josh, still pissy about already shoveling the driveway twice, said no that he’d just do it in the morning.

Yeah – he should have listened.

Waking up Thursday morning Josh decided to go out and start shoveling around 8am, soon after Megan decided to see if she could help.  Well, there wasn’t any snow on the driveway.  It was covered in about three inches of ice with the end of the driveway being a nice two foot high by four foot wide mound of ice thanks to all the snow plows.  Sigh.

Because our attempt to use our two shovels didn’t work that well – yeah, they’re plastic – Josh decided to check our arsenal of miscellaneous garden and lawn crap left behind for us.  We struck gold – finding a metal digging shovel and a pitchfork.  Josh used the pitchfork to breakup the ice into smaller sizes, while Megan used the snow shovel to move it out of the way at the end of the driveway.  Occasionally Josh needed to use the digging shovel instead of the pitchfork but the end result was that we cleared the driveway in about an hour.  Now onto our ice mound.

First Josh tries the pitchfork.  Nope, didn’t work.  Next he tries using the digging shovel.  Nope, it oddly enough just bounces back off the ice mound.  Josh swears he heard the ice mound laughing at him.  Destined to turn the tables on the ice mound, Josh ventures back to the tool arsenal in hope to find something else.  Wow – what do we have here???

Josh managed to find a six foot long, metal pole thinger that was not only rather heavy, but also had a tapered edge allowing it to quickly penetrate whatever it was made to penetrate.  Who’s laughing now ice mound?  While Josh was quickly turning the ice mound into smaller ice chunks, Megan found it was easier to carry the little pieces to the side of the driveway instead of using the shovel to push them.

Being her cute little self, Megan decided that we should build our first snowman together using the blocks of ice.  After almost unsuccessfully carrying huge blocks of ice to the front of the house, our snowman – Ice Man – was born.

While we had a great time together this morning clearing the driveway, Megan strongly believes that the next time she recommends shoveling the driveway Josh will definitely listen!

The “spirit” of the Iceman will live forever. Hopefully it won’t come back to your house each year. Maybe you should just throw hot water on him and melt his little A#%.
