Gerber Daisies, Red Roses, & Calla Lilies

10/11/07 now has a very special meaning to me…. one year from the day Josh are I are to exchange vows and commit our love to each other until death do us part, now 10/11/07 will be a memory to me forever too, once again Josh was able to leave me speechless!

10/11/07 started out as a normal day. Side note: Josh and I have gotten used to the fact that we do not drive to work together anymore, so our normal, the normal we have been used to is no more, so we are starting a new normal. Josh and I recognized the fact that in one year from today, we’ll both have butterflies and be just about ready to take the step into a new level in our relationship – marriage!

My work day was a very busy work day, having payroll to prepare and the biggest billing of the month just around the corner, I was juggling both “hats” rather well when a co-worker of mine came into my part of the office and said that I was needed up front. I said, what? She said I was needed up front immediately, that there was a delivery for me. I didn’t believe her and she continued to say that there were flowers for me at the front desk, lots of flowers! Still thinking she was fooling around, I kinda just took my time in going to the front desk, only then realizing she was following me!

Sure enough there at the front desk were 3 vases of flowers!!!! All different!!!! The front desk receptionist was in awe at how I received 3 beautiful arrangements of flowers and asked what the occasion was. Being that Josh and I talked about how today is the one year mark prior to our committing to each other for the rest of our lives, I knew that had to be the reason for all these flowers!

Each arrangement had a card attached, so I started with the first a vase of Red Roses (how appropriate I thought, Red for love) and the card read “I”. The second vase was a vase of Gerber Daisies (oh how sweet, my favorite flower, I thought) and the card read “Love”. The third vase was an arrangement of Calla Lilies (oh he’s too cute, they are so expensive that he knows I decided not to use them on my wedding day, so he got them for me today) and the card read “You”!

Arranging the vases of flowers around my cubical area in my office was rather amusing. See, I need every area of my desk for work, and especially this week, for there were papers everywhere! Even if I had a small amount of room, there was no way these arrangements would fit, none of them! I ended up sitting the red roses on my side chair, and the other two arrangements sat in front of my desk on boxes of invoice paper! I could see all three arrangements perfectly however, so it worked out well! The hard part was keeping the flowers cool, normally our office is rather chilly, and I usually run my box heater in order to stay warm, not today, today was the clammiest day that office has seen in a long time, go figure the day I receive 1/2 a flower store of flowers!!! I did manage to do a good job of keeping the flowers cool though. I borrowed my co-workers fan, set it up on my one filing cabinet and just circulated air around the office all day!!!

Calling Josh shortly after receiving the flowers, I thanked him and told him how he made the day so special for me! He asked if I understood the reasoning for the flowers. I told him my thoughts (what I wrote above) and he said, yes, but did you count the flowers, I said no. He said to count them. Counting the roses I came to find out there were 10, counting the Gerber Daisies I came to find there were 11, and then counting the Calla Lilies, I came to find that there were 8…. He said get it…. 10/11/08!!! Josh took my favorite flowers, and requested certain colors and came up with the cleaver idea of getting OUR date across through flowers, now isn’t that romantic, sweet, and isn’t he just the best guy anyone could ever ask for!

Josh you are without a doubt the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you more and more everyday and you really are the love of my life and my soul-mate. As we have reached the mark of 365 days, I find myself looking more and more forward to becoming your wife. Thank you for the beautiful flowers and the meaning they signify! I love you!

Josh, what a lovely, kind, thoughtful act you did for our beautiful (inside and out) daughter. We are so happy you have come into Megan’s life and that in just under a year you will officially become Crazy’s son-in-law. We love you.

    That was incrediable!
You have always been a very “deep” and caring son. It is a blessing to know that your love will be returned and appreciated. And, yes, I think the two of you just might be soul mates.
    I love you both.
