When Josh and I signed Blanco Photography, we both decided that it would be a good idea to have an “Engagement Session” scheduled and “shoot” prior to our wedding day. This proved again to be one of our best decisions because once again after having the Blanco’s work with Josh and I one afternoon a few weeks ago, we are very happy with the decision we made in signing them as our photographers for our 10/11/08!
An Engagement Session, as described to Josh and I in June when we met with Rick and Maria the first time to see what they had to offer, is a session for the bride and groom to have Engagement photos taken, that can be used on the wedding day in both Favor Tags as well as either “A Wish Book” or “A John Hancock” ((you’ll see what we choose on our 10/11/08)). The session also was to help with allowing both Josh and myself to become familiar and comfortable with Rick and Maria and get to know them as photographers.
Josh and I had decided that with having a fall wedding planned, we wanted to have our Engagement photos taken in the fall and outdoors if at all possible. Rick and Maria let us know that they could do outdoor in the fall either “On Location” ((somewhere that maybe would be a special place to Josh and I)) or they could take the photos in their very own outdoor studio just behind their house. We felt that with wanting to capture the fall leaves and surroundings that having the photos taken at the outdoor studio was the direction we wanted to go. Scheduling a day and time, Josh and I were excited for we had to be at Rick and Maria’s at 4:00 in the afternoon. With it being fall and the hours starting to shift, we had to start around 4:00 so there would be enough daylight. That morning however Josh received a phone call from Rick saying that we would have to reschedule because of the overcast, fog looking skies. Both bummed, but understanding we had a rain date scheduled for the following week. (Still uncertain as to why the rescheduling happened since it was gorgeous out by 12:00 noon, we have full faith in our photographers and aren’t holding any grudges! ;))
The following week arrived and it was so foggy and overcast once again that I for sure was expecting Josh to call me at work saying we had to reschedule again. Nope, in fact I left work at 1:00 and was able to get home, relax a bit and get ready for our session and be back at the Blanco’s by 4:00. Josh and I were both really excited and couldn’t wait to get these photographs taken! We both love photos so this is such a huge part of us ((as you can tell from our website and photo album)) that we were so hoping this was going to go as well as we were thinking it was going to go! It did!!!!
No need to question the 2 hours we spent in Rick and Maria’s outdoor studio was such a delight. They are both so great to work with and so calm, patient ((yes they need that when working with us, at least one of us)), and over all so friendly! While not wanting to give too much away about the outdoor studio, for I think anyone who has any interest in getting professional shots taken should use Blanco Photography, let me just say it was incredible! Yes we had to pose and position ourselves like any other photographer would make you do, but having our Engagement photos taken amongst a fall scene of colors in a natural setting was something Josh and I both felt as being unique. Josh and I had a fun time, and we think Rick and Maria did as well ((at least they appeared to be having fun)). When we left that night we were both so excited for our follow-up appointment to see how our images all came out!
Well while most came out great and we were very very happy with the photos, some all Josh and I could do was laugh!!! Good laughs of course and after all it is a good thing to laugh!!! We looked though all the pictures ((digital, so on the computer)) and picked photos out that we want to use as well as our Favor Tag photo. We also splurged and purchased a group of photos framed for us!!! After all we are the “stars” we should have a memory of that day!
Josh and I both expressed how a number of people wanted to see the “proofs” we received from the Engagement session. We were told that proofs haven’t been done in a paper format in about 10 years. In fact, no one even asks for proofs. Maria even said that they had 1 bride in the last 7 years ask for proofs and she paid extra for the paper version. Rick and Maria have agreed to display our engagement photos on a website that people can go to and view the pictures. They are in the process of creating this for Josh and I, so once we have access to the site, I will certainly make the site public knowledge.
We are still overflowing with excitement in our great find in Rick and Maria. They again make us feel like we are their only clients devoting hours of time and creativity in our captured moments that they themselves captured for us!
Just a side note: We again left Rick and Maria’s with an arm full of firewood for our fireplace! 🙂
