Ka-sim-E 2008

If Walt Disney World was in Camden, why would anyone pay to see rats running around scaring little kids? Luckily, Mr. Disney was smart enough to choose Kissimmee for the location of his magical Disney World and we decided to visit him for an extended weekend vacation!

BTW – We didn’t see any rats. For that matter, we didn’t see any mice with big ears either…

We’re going to keep this short, mainly because our last few vacation posts were not only pages upon pages but took days and days to write. Plus it’s Disney World – it’s magical – how can you possibly describe magical happenings? You tell us, how? No no, tell us. We’re waiting. See, you can’t, we didn’t think so.

Our vacation started off rather Josh and Megan like, after dropping our car off at airport parking, getting to the airport and upgrading to Business Class ((Airtran doesn’t have a ‘true’ First class)) – we decided to grab something quick to eat and enjoy a few beverages. Please know that these beverages include a nice, cold beverage foaming in a styrofoam cup, plus several more ice-cold beverages from the “D” bar ((For those of you who don’t know, terminal D at the PHL airport has a huge bar at the end of the terminal with 48 beers on tap! Woohoo!)). After many hours and Josh piloting a plane, our plane arrived and we were off to the magical world of mice!

Our first two days in Kissimmee were spent at Epcot and the Magic Kingdom. Since we both haven’t been to Disney World in many years, it was great to see how things remained the same but changed at the same time. Many of the old favorite rides and attractions were still there ((and some were being renovated)), plus there were a few new attractions that replaced the old and outdated. Megan’s favorite ride – Cinderella’s Golden Carousel – was being refurbished so it looks like we’ll be making another trip down to the land of mice in a few years!

It was very unique to visit the foreign lands in Epcot after being to some of them in person. While in some ways Disney tries to capture the true authenticity, it’s still quite Disney like. After all, there’s nothing magical about trash everywhere on the streets ((Morocco reference here!)) or a continued malfunctioning boat ride ((Mexico reference here!)). We also became trash technicians ((who ever said we’re not politically correct)) surveying the amount of trash and recyclables we use throughout the year.

The Magic Kingdom was, ahem, magical. Many mini-princesses and crocs.  Crocs everywhere, even crocs with rats mice on them! The Magic Kingdom was great because most of the attractions that we remembered from years ago are still running and we went on most of them ((We didn’t really wait in any line for anything more then 20 minutes, too)). Our favorite attraction was the new Buzz Lightyear ride. Talk about cool – getting to shoot aliens all while controlling spinning your own private spaceship!

Sunday we decided to spend the day around the pool and enjoy the perfect Florida weather. Being mid-May, it was great for the resort was not packed/overcrowded with kids so we had the pool practically to ourselves, with the occasional ‘people-watch’ victim ((Who, oddly enough, were almost always European. Strange…)). After baking all day, we headed off to Downtown Disney. We walked around for a couple of hours and then had an excellent dinner at Wolfgang Puck’s Dining Room ((Take a look at the menu – bet you can’t guess what Josh ordered?!)). To die for… Yummie!

As quickly as it came, our vacation was over. We had a great few days down in Kissimmee on our mini-vacation and hopefully will be returning soon. Maybe even next time with little rat mice lovers!

The list below might not make any sense to you as they were little happenings we experienced along the way. If you’re interested in knowing the inside scoop, just ask!

  • Hyundai / ~ ((that’s the tilde for those who don’t know…))
  • We don’t have a notebook to write things down. Come on Josh, you didn’t bring one? You ALWAYS bring a notebook!
  • Early Airport = Early Drinking
  • Pee before getting on the plane Megan!
  • Mr. & Mrs. Bluetooth – who the hell are you talking to, you’re with each other! On vacation, at Disney – who is going to call you!
  • Burger King nightmare
  • Getting to Epcot and Magic Kingdom before they open – great idea!
  • Bluetooth everywhere!
  • Our lizard friends outside of our room
  • That guy looks like someone combined Josh’s Dad, Hansel and Onofrio! OMG!
  • The resort bar – margaritas, karaoke guy and old lady’s who don’t know what to drink…
  • OMG – Corona Light tastes like, well, just don’t drink it.
  • Completely under-dressed going to Wolfgang Puck’s – but it’s Disney – we were Magically OK!
  • Our stupid new sunblock (SPF like-30) didn’t work – I wonder why?!?!
  • Paying $4.99 a gallon for gas

Once again, Ebony is sitting on Josh’s lap staring at the Samuel Adams Chery Wheat bottle. Boy she takes after her parents… Good Girl! 🙂

FYI: We know there aren’t many people out there like us who go to Disney and, while there, enjoy a few nice cold beers ((Go Mexico!!)). What we did find interesting and, for that matter very nice, was that Walt Disney didn’t mind alcohol in any of his parks, except for the Magic Kingdom. He wanted to make sure that there was never any alcohol in the one park geared most toward young ones! We agree with this decision, here’s to you Walt ((as we toast to you with our beers…)).

HA…enjoyed Buzz Lightyear too. Great ride, probably because I beat Randys score.
