While most of the music played during our reception was selected by our DJ ((Kal – what a great “good news / bad news” guy…)), there were a few special songs played throughout the day that were either hand selected by Megan and I or selected for us by our parents. Since we don’t have the opportunity to talk about this often, I wanted to share these music selections with everyone.
The songs below are listed in chronological order. I hope listening to each of them brings back many memories of our special day!
One last thing, the songs below are not of the best sound quality as I wanted to make them small enough to listen to quickly. If you want a better version, just ask!
Ceremony
Air (on the G String) by Bach
Our Mothers, followed by my Father as Megan’s Father had a place to be, were escorted to their seats and Nikki made her entrance and joined Pastor Dave, Matt and myself. Performed by Pete Smyser ((Pete is not the one performing this song below, although the others “guitar only” songs on this page are of Pete in studio)).
Canon in D by Pachelbel
The long walk as they say… accompanied by her Father, Megan made her entrance – looking more beautiful then ever – walked down the isle and joined the rest of us up front. Meanwhile most of us were blinded by the bright sunshine her beauty. Performed by Pete.
Find Your Wings by Mark Harris
A Song of Prayer from the Parents. Jill and Joe Vincent performed while Pete played the guitar ((This is the original version by Mark Harris, we didn’t think of having someone record this for us)).
I Will Be Here by Steven Curtis Chapman
Our Dedication to Each Other. Again performed by Jill, Joe and Pete ((Again, the original version performed by Steven Curtis Chapman. Really wished we thought of recording the songs…)).
Alla Hornpipe by Handel
The Recessional – Megan and I walked down the isle together for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Joshua and Megan Cook! Performed by Pete.
Reception
Theme song from the Newlywed Game
Played during the introduction on our families, Maid on Honor, Best Man and finally the new Mr. & Mrs. Joshua and Megan Cook!
My Best Friend by Tim McGraw
Our First Dance song. This song really means a lot to Megan and I as we do consider each other to be our best friend. Such a great feeling to marry and love the person who you know also to be your best friend!
I Loved Her First by Heartland
My beautiful Bride and her Father danced to this song.
In Your Eyes by David Chamberlain
For some reason it was very difficult for me to find a song to dance to during the Mother Son dance, although I have to say that once this song was found and listened to I immediately knew it was the perfect song to dance to with my Mom!
Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Israel IZ Kamakawiwo’ole
This was played during the evening and it just a song and a rendition that we both love!
Thank You by Dido
Early in the planning process Megan and I decided that this needed to be the last song played – we wanted to find a simple but thoughtful way to say Thank You to everyone that attended our perfect day and this worked perfectly!
Noteworthy Titles
Take My Hand by Dido
This is what Megan and I consider to be our song and while it wasn’t played that evening, I feel it should be listed here too!

Josh and Megan: A great post. As I read your writing with each song I was reliving the day. This is so nice.

This has to be one of the best posts to bring back memories! What a way to spend another evening at your wedding re-living the nite. However, had I been able to hear the words entirely to “our” song, I would have been a basket case. Sitting here late in the evening, “remembering” and listening, I have tears running down my face. What a beauiful “Thank You” from a most presious son.

I listened to “my” song again tonight. How beautiful, the song you picked for me. A couple of tears are deciated to you tonight. But, most of all, I know you are happy. I love you so much. The man you turned into, the loving husband you are, and the fantastic father I know you will be. Mom
