The Wedding Cake Incident at Our 10.11.08

November 24, 2008 @ 10:11 am ·

We promised we would not use the same naming sequence – “blah from Our 10.11.08” – I did change it up a bit. With the wedding cake being a main focal point of almost every wedding reception, including ours, it only fit to use “Our 10.11.08” for this writing as well!

The incident that occurred involving Josh & I, our photographers Rick & Maria, and our wedding cake still is something we talk about and share with guests at our wedding as well as just a story we like to share because now looking back it was a funny happening and something we both felt should hold a writing of it’s own here at Inside Our Shell.

Our whole wedding day was spectacular – the ceremony was picture perfect and it focused on Josh & I and our love for each other. Our reception was lovely, a wonderful time – great food, great songs, lots of dancing, just a lot of fun! The cake however, while we recall it tasting like a snip-it of heaven, that is only a very faint memory in our minds. Ya see, the only snip-it of cake Josh or I  had that evening was the small nibble of cake we fed each other! We’ve been told by many how delicious our wedding cake was. Some even have gone as far to admit that when at a wedding they skip the cake because wedding cakes aren’t good! So we know that this cake was something worth taking the time to eat! Here is the synopsis of “The Wedding Cake Incident”….

As the cake is centered in the middle of the dance floor, Josh and I are instructed by our photographers that there are 4, yes I repeat 4 steps involved with the ritual of cutting a wedding cake.

  1. Cut the cake
  2. Serve the cake
  3. Feed each other the cake
  4. Kiss

As we stood in the middle of the dance floor ready to cut, serve, feed, and then kiss, Josh and I both really weren’t paying attention to our surroundings and were pretty focused on Rick and his instructions. We both wanted to make sure that we captured each of the 4 steps that had been given to us only moments prior. We begin to check mark off the steps, successfully cutting the cake ((although that darn decorative ribbon was a bit of a hold up)), followed by somewhat serving it ((although a good amount of it ended up in the fluffy table decor-sorry Brad)), feeding it to each other, and finally…wait a minute…hold it a second…both Josh and I with our snip-it of cake consumed and enjoyed stood in the middle of the dance floor both looking at the remaining in each of our fingertips questioning if we should finish off what we just nicely had fed to each other. What about step 4, no kiss?!?!?! Finally after what felt to us at that moment in time like 3-4 minutes we kiss! As we both turn away from the cake, we turn into what felt like a junior paparazzi for cameras flashed non-stop, what a moment!

That basically covers the incident, 4 simple steps and after all the instruction we followed that day one would have thought that the cake cutting steps would have been one of the easiest sets. What can we say, the cake was that good that our minds escaped us and we took a moment to just enjoy! We are glad we took that moment because that snip-it of cake we fed each other was the only piece of that cake we had and still have had. In our freezer right now we have the cake top to eat on our 1 year wedding anniversary and we have vowed to not break into it before, yes it has crossed our minds to throw tradition to the birds and enjoy the cake now!

One thing we are certain of and glad we did do – we are glad we fed each other the cake rather than waste it by smashing it in each others faces, how upset would we be if we hadn’t even got the little snip-it of heaven!

It was yummy! And thinking back, I don’t recall eating any of our cake either – except of course for that 1 bite….
