Because Megan and I have our big vacation in a few months, we really didn’t want to spend a ton of money going away somewhere for just a few days. But we knew that we needed to get-a-way from the stresses of work and just have a few days of relaxation. Now we have a dilemma on our hands…
While we love the shore, by the time we get down there and finally get to relax we’ve wasted pretty much an entire day ((not to mention Mom J’s time by having to check us into our room)) and everywhere else just didn’t seem worth the over priced rate that is still being charged for the summer months. So after much discussion, Megan and I decided to go [intlink id=”1061″ type=”post”]back to French Creek State Park[/intlink] for a weekend of camping.
First and foremost, the weather was absolutely perfect for the entire weekend. While we were worried a few days prior because the weather people were saying it might rain, all three days ended up being perfect. The days were warm enough that when we were out and about you were warm, but when sitting in front of the fire the warmth felt great!
I can honestly say that we really didn’t do that much. Friday night we arrived at camp a bit late and quickly set up our tent and camping environment only to quickly realize that we left all of our sleeping sheets and, more importantly, blankets at home. So we made a quick trip home ((under 40 minutes, French Creek is right around the corner)) and were soon back with our retrieved bedding.
From that point on until just about 30 minutes before leaving on Sunday afternoon we pretty much sat around the fire and either talked, read or slept. Obviously there were a few bathroom trips ((boy the showers were SO clean, just like we were at home)) and food preparations that occurred, but all in all we just relaxed. We did need to leave camp on Saturday to get more wood though – it seems that wood burns fast, go figure! 😛
We did play a couple of games. Friday night we played our good-ole’ stand by, Skip-bo, which we both enjoy. I managed to somehow win 2 of 3 games which is very difficult when you’re playing against the Skip-Bo Queen. We also played Monopoly for about 15 minutes. We realized after that short amount of time that no one really likes to play Monopoly, we just all lie and say we do. Once anyone starts to play everyone seems to remember how much they actually despise it. So as you guess, that game ended quickly!
Our meals turned out great too! Both mornings we had scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, sausage and home fries. For lunch on Saturday we had hot ((Mine was with Cheese)) dogs ((Oh, Omaha Steaks makes horrible hot dogs!!!)) and macaroni salad ((Mom R’s, not Mom J’s – HAHA!)) and for dinner Saturday night we had marinated chicken with baked potatoes and a delicious butter bean concoction. Yum! We did bring most of the ingredients for Smores, although luckily we didn’t have them because we left the graham crackers at home!
All in all, our second camping trip was absolutely perfect. We learned a few things, such as it’s probably a good idea to bring a light or christmas lights ((or tealights if there isn’t electric)) to lay on the ground since we do have a site with electric ((which we only used to inflate our air mattress and to listen to our I-Pod)), but just about everything else was as smooth went as smooth as possible!
I can honestly say that I’m really looking forward to our next camping trip together – which is just a few weekends away!
In true Megan and Josh fashion we of course took some pictures throughout the weekend. Although I do have to say that we relaxed so much there aren’t that many. Oh well, maybe next time! 🙂

You’ll have to invest in a heater for that tent and join us for Sam’s birthday at French Creek in December

It would snow fourteen feet and we’d either freeze or be electrocuted! 😛

Great that you are getting your camping experience, but no medal until you can pop the pre-packaged popcorn without burning the bottom! (Over the fire!)
I know you can do it!

Thank goodness we aren’t popcorn lovers!
