As the third trimester begins Little Lima and I are doing great! Hard to believe we are now in the 3rd trimester of our pregnancy. I feel like just yesterday Josh and I read the results on the little urine stick stating we are expecting! Time really does fly and to think that in a couple of months our little one will be with us!!!
One of the things that is required of all pregnant women is what is known as a Gestational Diabetes test. This test is handled through blood work that is done the morning after fasting. I made an appointment and was surprised how quickly and on time Quest Diagnostics took me back into the lab area to have the test administered. After having 2 vials of blood drawn I was required to drink a glucose drink and then wait an hour and have more blood taken. While this sounds like it could possibly be the longest hour ever, it was rather entertaining, ((remember we live in Pottstown)) the people watching was exceptional!!! We received the results at our next appointment and my sugar levels are perfect, spot on, so no fear of Gestational Diabetes, what a relief!
At the same appointment I found out some rather surprising news! ((we’re having twins – only kidding)) At the beginning of every appointment you get weighed in and this time I weighed in 10 pounds heavier from the month prior!!!! This is the most weight I have ever gained in such a short period of time!!! Being a bit worried I did inquire if any concern should be had over this increase in weight. I was told not to worry about the 10 pound gainage and that most pregnant women experience a big growth spurt at some point during their pregnancies and that this was more than likely my big spurt. Of course they remind you to eat healthy and exercise which will aid in the gainage. I see it as I am growing a little person and while I may not like that I am gaining I can’t starve the little one. ((I’ll be brought in for child abuse before the little one is even born!!!))
The evening of our monthly check-up Josh and I arrive home and low and behold I slip and fall on black ice at the end of our driveway. I went to check the mail as I was expecting a delivery of “Tummy Batter” ((stretch mark prevention & anti-itch ointment)) good news is the “Tummy Batter” arrived, bad news is that I took a plunge to the pavement. Luckily I landed on all fours (( two hands and both knees)) protecting little Lima as she didn’t touch ground at all. I envision her in a bouncer within me bouncing around ((she’ll probably hate the bouncer once with us, it’ll be to traumatizing)) smiling and enjoying!! Scared more than anything ((who am I kidding I skinned my knee pretty bad and still a few days later have a nice black and blue mark)) I started to cry. Thank goodness Josh was still outside so he ran to my aid. Getting me inside and on the couch I got myself composed after fearing that something was wrong with our little one. As the night progressed I did feel her moving around which was a relief. The next day however I wasn’t feeling her moving and I have come to learn her movement patterns and the times of day she is more active. Not feeling her move I started to worry all over again and called my OB and they suggested I come in to ease my mind and to make sure all was okay with our little one.
Our OB office really is a great group of people, so caring, loving and wanting nothing but the best for you and your baby. They took great care of me and made sure I was comfortable and calm during the whole check-up. I was hooked up to a fetal monitor for a good 45 minutes. They were tracking Lima’s heartbeat, making sure that during a 10 minute span of time her heart rate increased by at least 10 beats per minute twice. They also had a contraption that was keeping an eye on my uterus making sure it wasn’t spasming or doing anything out of the ordinary, ((contractions)) and they had me hold a little device that had a button on the end ((kinda like I was on Jeopardy)) and every time I felt Lima move I had to press the button. This registered on the printout as did her heartbeat and uterus activity. Being that I wasn’t feeling Lima move even after being hooked up to the fetal monitor for a while the nurse brought in some peanut butter crackers ((I KNOW, heaven)) and some water. After eating this about 20 minutes later Lima started to move around and become rather active. The doctor came in afterwards and shared with me that all looks great and that Lima was probably just a bit traumatized as she was shaken up when I fell. An internal was done as well to check on any leakage of amniotic fluid which thankfully I was not leaking. Lima and I are both doing fine. A couple days after and she is moving around like nothing ever happened – kick, thump, punch… 🙂 Happy to have our little one back to her active self.
Beginning our 28th week of pregnancy it is hard to believe that we are 2/3rds of the way there and that our little one will be with us very soon! I am enjoying every moment of this pregnancy and carrying our little daughter. So many special moments of just feeling her a feeling that will never escape my memory.
Daddy and I love you Lima… forever.
