Breathe Breathe Breathe

Contractions Start. 10 Seconds. 20 Seconds. 30 Seconds. 40 Seconds. 50 Seconds. Contractions End. Lamaze is easy!

At least for Josh; all he needs to do is count contractions, be supportive and keep Megan relaxed and encouraged. Sounds like an easy job although boy did his hands get tired from the massages! 🙂

This past March we attended four Monday night Lamaze ((Well, baby training too)) classes at the Pottstown Memorial Hospital. While many of you are expecting HE-HE-WHO HE-HE-WHO ((go ahead, make the noise, you know what we’re talking about)) it seems that Lamaze breathing no longer seems like a cross between a retarded snake and a retarded owl! All the complex breathing has been replaced with one simple breathing excercise performed by Megan ((she says she is the star of the show, although I’m still thinking it’s LIMA! Maybe Megan is the opening act and we’re all waiting for the headliner!)) while Josh counts contractions and helps her try to relax as much as possible. No more pillows, no more mats, nothing – just breathing, a bit of massage and encouragement from her Hubby and a happy thought or place. Simple.

In addition to learning how to breathe, was also learned the different stages of labor, drugs and their effect on the Lima and basic baby maintenance. We also learned that during our hospital stay a nurse will provide detailed training for us new parents.

The night we enjoyed the most was the night we toured the maternity floor at the hospital. We were able to see the pre-labor room, learned about post-labor and the immediate actions performed by the staff when Lima arrives. We were also happy to hear that the hospital has a state of the art baby security system. Basically, don’t try to leave with Lima or you’ll be shot. 😛

Overall we were happy with the learning experience and really recommend it to any parents-to-be!
