Tonight is night #1 of Ella’s new bedtime routine… So far I haven’t heard her. Keeping my fingers crossed!!! As we all know, change can be difficult 🙂
We had a good thing going but good things always seem to need altered or changed. For close to a year we’ve been reading Ella a bedtime story in her room while she drinks her milk relaxing on either Mommy or Daddy. We then say her prayers and rock her to sleep ((yes she is our first, so she got used to being rocked to sleep)).
Since we have another “issue” of Ella’s love for The Cat In The Hat book ((I’ve been reading that book for 4 months straight)) we have received some suggestions ((thanks to Facebook)) and are now reading a story that either Mommy or Daddy picks out each night to read together on the couch after watching her nightly TV shows. This will show Ella that there are other good books to read and maybe she’ll choose something different to read upon occasion, let’s hope! After our story together on the couch we head upstairs and instead of reading and saying prayer in the chair, we now lay on Ella’s future Big Girl bed and read a story that she picks out followed by her nightly prayer. This is giving her the feel of laying calmly on the bed she will eventually sleep in. After prayer Ella says goodnight to her moon ((on her ceiling from her turtle star light)) and she lays down in her crib and we exchange kisses and nose rubs!!!
Close to 2 hours into night #1 and we haven’t heard a peep out of her. Time will tell as with any young child some nights are as smooth as silk and to follow are a number of horrific nights! We hope that Ella welcomes the change in her bedtime routine and enjoys laying on her big girl bed as that will be another change in the near future!
