We've been playing a lot of games here in the Cook Household. Game playing has even taken over watching a show before bed in some evenings, which I think is awesome I might add!! Tonight we were playing a game which has multiple "lose a turn" spaces on the board. It was Coopers turn and he had no choice but to land on that awful space. The boy cried and cried. We explained that it is ok and we all land on those spaces every now and again. Even Ella was consoling him.
Bless her heart, she was the next person to take a turn and could have avoided the "lose a turn" space but in support of her brother and to show him it's ok to lose a turn she landed in the space and laughed out loud at doing so. He continued to cry and she continued laugh. I praised her for being a great big sister and she said "I knew me laughing about it would make him happy...at least I thought it would."
I then took my turn and followed her awesome lead and landed on "lose a turn"...Josh did the same. Cooper was still unhappy and didn't like that he lost his turn and was upset cause he didn't win the game. However that little girl once again demonstrated how wonderful and compassionate she can be towards others. Bless that big big heart of hers!

Lately Ella has started making faces at us if she is disgruntled with us. We've continued to explain that it is unkind and there is no reason to make faces when you feel frustrated, angry etc.
Yesterday this happened during bath time. Josh calmly and ever so politely told her that her face would stick that way. I then told her that when I was a little girl I liked making faces and I was told my face would stay like that forever.
Sure enough she made a face and Josh didn't miss the opportunity to let her know her face was stuck. She cried a bit and we told her the only way to unstick her face is too drink lemon juice and/or sometimes when you listen very well it will just go back to normal but you have to listen to Mommy and Daddy.
The girl listened and part way through her getting herself dressed Josh looked at her and said....oh my goodness you face isn't stuck anymore, you must have listened.
Today she is reiterating to me the two ways she can unstick her face. Guess she plans to continue the face making.
