Savory Grille

For Josh's birthday back in March, we had our first dining experience at the Savory Grille based upon the recommendation from a coworker.  Our memories of the food that night are nothing but exceptional, although because we couldn't remember everything exactly we decided to spark our memory and make a return trip because we liked the food so much and couldn't wait to go back for the benefit of Inside Our Shell.

After driving a few miles past what Josh calls the middle of no where, we (Megan, Josh & Josh's Mom) arrived at Savory Grille last night at 7pm.  Although we had reservations, we needed to "stand around" for a few minutes while our table was being prepared.  Once seated, Josh's Mom began scanning the menu while we (what do you expect) examined the drink menu.  While the drink menu was new addition, the appetizers and entries change seasonally which is great as you always can expect something new on your return visit.  Here's a look at the menu:

Appetizers

  • Chilled minted cantaloupe soup
  • Edamame dumplings, miso broth
  • Sautéed escargots, exotic mushroom strudel, green peppercorn sauce
  • Maine lobster claws, sweet pea risotto
  • Jumbo lump crab cake, sauce buerre blanc
  • Fried oysters, grilled Romaine red wine Caesar

Entrees

  • Day boat Halibut, warm potato salad
  • Pan-seared Ahi tuna, peanut-crusted soft shell crab, sweet corn coulis
  • Sautéed diver scallops, gnocchi, pancetta, asparagus puree
  • Grilled filet mignon, vanilla-scented yam Dauphine, balsamic syrup
  • Roasted Lamb rack, artichoke salad
  • Braised veal cheeks, Quinoa, gremolata
  • Five Spice seared Duck breast, jicama-mango slaw
  • Grilled organic chicken breast, cucumber, red raspberries, red onion salad
  • Pork sirloin, pomegranate molasses, white Italian figs

All entrees served with chef’s choice of vegetables and starch

We all decided to pass on appetizers and order our main entree, Megan ordered Grilled organic chicken breast, cucumber, red raspberries, red onion salad while Josh and Josh's Mom ordered Braised Veal cheeks, Quinoa, gremolata.  While we're waiting for our salads, we should tell you about the drinks we ordered.  Megan had a Granny Smith Apple, which is a really good Appletini, and later in the evening had a glass of red wine.  Josh enjoyed a Frenchmen, which was a French Martini, and then a Granny Smith Apple.  While Josh's Mom went all out and skipped right over the special drink list.  Yes, two Cognac's.  Hey Mom, do you have a Snifter?

Dinner has arrived…  Megan enjoyed her chicken dish, the cucumber and raspberries really enhanced the flavor of the chicken.  Both of the Braised Veal Cheeks dishes were absolutely incredible.  It literally melted in your month.  Listen, I'm serious, it really melted in your mouth.  You didn't even need to chew the meat.  Megan even tried it and liked it – it was just delicious.  Now, in case you're wondering what Veal Cheeks are, Josh has created a little picture for you (yes, I am madly in love with her…):

What are Veal Cheeks?

After we enjoyed the main entree, we moved on to dessert which was absolutely incredible as well.  Megan has the Creme Brule with fresh berries, Josh's Mom had the Bailey's Cheesecake with Raspberries and Josh had the Chocolate Molten Peanut Butter cake.  We shouldn't even need to tell you this, but desert was out of this world.

If you decide to venture and experience the great food at the Savory Grill, keep in mind that while the service may seem slow it's actually a great time to catch up on the lost art of conversation.  Oh, plus remember that we're always available to tag along for dinner.

What can I say? The company and conversation could have been anywhere… but the Savory Grill brought back to mind a Europian flair with a family atmoshere, however, at the same time elegent. It’s a “10”

    Questions?
Would the world have seen the “picture”, if the cheeks had been different ones. Remember, we weren’t sure either!
