Last December, Floppie’s back began to give him trouble and after taking doggy steroids he seemed to be better. In early March his back problems returned and after three weeks of steroid treatment we were instructed by Dr. Patt to immediately take him to the ER.
Today it has been four weeks since Floppie’s emergency visit to The University of Pennsylvania’s Veterinary Medicine Emergency Room, where he was instructed to remain in “crate-rest” for the next four weeks. During these last four weeks when Floppie wasn’t in his big crate, he has been shuttled around in a portable pet carrier. Whether we are making dinner, watching TV or going for a car ride, he remained in the portable crate as close to us as possible.
Over the weeks the crate has become known as Floppie’s Shuttle, as we tend to shuttle him everywhere we go!
Last Monday Dr. Patt told us that she’s happy with Floppie’s progression and that his back is getting better. With this good news we have brushed the cobwebs off the pet gate and once again allow Floppie the freedom of the kitchen and living room, while keeping a close eye on him so he doesn’t jump.
Floppie still gets to ride in his Shuttle daily, as we don’t let him do stairs and car rides without it, although I’m sure he’s happy being able to spend time with us and his sister without having to look at us through the Shuttle’s door.

Sometimes thinking about having someone “shuttle” me around sounds reeeeal good, but it would have to me on my terms. I say when, and I say where. By the look on Floppie’s face, I think he’s thinking the same thing!
