Our Tent Will Eat Yours!

Literally. Josh and I were asked to go camping with my brother and my parents the last weekend in June. Both of us camped in our childhood, but in our adult lives we hadn’t and we needed to purchase a tent. Josh did all the research checking out each tent to make sure we wouldn’t get leaked on etc. And he found what became known as the tank of all tents. Really, the Versa could park inside it!

We had a great weekend camping at French Creek State Park. Josh arrived Friday mid-afternoon and he along with my parents had camp set up, including Matt’s tent, when Matt and I arrived in the evening. They all must have had a good afternoon together, for they managed to polish off a 1/2 a bottle of mango vodka by the time we arrived!

Saturday we spent a good part of the day playing Disc Golf.  Josh and I had never played disc golf before so this was a unique experience for us both. The course that Matt was familiar with was no longer being used, so we ventured to find the new course. Still being renovated, we could play, but had to skip the first “hole”. The course is 18 holes in length and it runs throughout the wooded area of French Creek. After about the 2nd hole, we realized that keeping score was going to be nearly impossible, so we just played for fun! We all had a great time!

We had a fire going all weekend long which was nice. One thing I love about camping is the smell of a campfire. We all enjoyed sitting around chatting and enjoying the snap, crackle,  pop of the fire. Hot dogs, Banana Boats, Smores, along with hot water, baked beans, and sausages were all made over the open flame of our fire. As we said, we were “roughing it”!

Sunday morning Matt was in a 15K that was held at the park. While he invited us all to join him in the run, we all politely declined, but said we would be there to cheer him on. We did just that, we cheered him on and then met him at the finish line. It took Matt about an hour and 34 minutes to run the 9 mile race. I am exhausted just thinking about it, HA!

We ended our weekend with a late breakfast back at camp before tearing down and heading home. Josh and I really enjoyed ourselves and would like to camp more often.

OH we camp there often! It’s a nice get-a-way close to home. We’ll have to plan a trip together sometime!
