Today is May 2nd, as of yesterday we have been in this house for a year. It's hard to believe a year has gone by so quickly and all the things we've done in that year.
Ella turned 3. Cooper turned 2. Ella broke her leg and was in a cast for a month. Both children went to preschool in the fall and are now less than a month from the end of their school year! Josh and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary, apart, as I was in Myrtle Beach with my parents and the kiddos. We had our first Halloween with zero treaters. We hosted our first Thanksgiving Dinner. We celebrated Christmas and Santa had a chimney to come down!!!! A New Year came and went pretty much just like at our old house, on the sofa, a few cocktails and the kiddies snuggled in their beds upstairs. I turned 36. Josh and I escaped to Jamaica for a belated 5 Year Anniversary Getaway. Josh turned 39. And the Easter Bunny found us.
We've made a few changes to the house, but the big change will happen this fall to our backyard!
While we have had some over to see the place neither Josh or myself are big entertainers, but maybe this coming year we will manage to have more gatherings at our house.
We are happy and that is what is most important. The dwelling is 4 walls just like our previous house and while I am much happier here, the love that is within the 4 walls is unmeasurable.
Happy 1 Year to The Cooks!

I saw a post on fb a long time ago of a parent who tied their children together when they refused to get along. I am seriously at that point.
Knowing my children they would work together to get themselves free and then continue on with the bickering etc.

When I picked Ella up today from school her teachers told us that they made a super special project that is a secret.
Ella told me twice that it's a secret and she can only tell Daddy.
She just woke up from nap, early, and the first thing she started to do was tell me about the project. We have been doing the steps to the project for 15 minutes now using items around the house and pretending to do what they did.
I won't share the steps etc. as some of you friends have kiddies in her class. But now I am even more intrigued to see what this special project is all about!

Ella told me tonight that I have a big belly. Knowing how society is this day in age on Self Image and teaching our children (daughters) that being a "rail" and thinner then thin isn't necessarily the way to be as it isn't healthy etc., I watched my wording. I told her my belly isn't flat and it probably never will be. I told her I grew two sweet babies in my belly and while she and her brother aren't in my belly any longer I still carry unending love for them.
She then asked why Daddy has a big belly? What is in his belly? I didn't even know how to answer so I quickly asked Josh and he said FOOD.
Once I told her what is in Daddys belly she told me that she wants a belly like mine, one that is filed with love! :-)

Josh and I made the sand table into a rock box for the winter months. It has been a great winter activity for the kiddos, especially Cooper! Every time the box is used there are continual reminders throughout the entire play time about keeping the rocks in the box. Each and every time rocks end up out of the box, sometimes by accident..sometimes because Cooper thinks it is fun to drop shovels full onto the ground.
Today we were in the basement playing and Coop decided to play with the box. I had to run upstairs to answer the phone. I was gone 5 minutes, if that, and return to an empty box! No exaggeration, the box had dust from the rocks, but the rocks were all over my basement floor.
The three of us, although it was mostly Ella and myself, cleaned up the rocks and the table is now off limits.
I had to explain to Ella that while I understand she didn't have a role in making the rock carpet on the basement floor I can't let the rock table be a play item right now as Cooper isn't doing a good job at keeping the rocks on the table. She seemed to understand.
I know they are kids and he was probably having fun but my blood was boiling to the point I told him a sandbox may not happen this summer and the box may just disappear until he is older.
It's been 7 months that the table has been filed with rocks and every time he plays with them a reminder is given to keep the rocks on the table...so the fact that all the rocks were on the floor after 7 months of continual reminders had me a bit frustrated with the whole concept.
