Getting up early at the hotel wasn’t as hard as one would think as we were both excited to really begin our trip to Las Vegas. Plus, being that we stayed at a Hampton Inn before, we were both sorta looking forward towards breakfast. To make a long boring breakfast story short, it was horrible. After what they called breakfast, we caught the 7:35am shuttle to the airport figuring we would grab something good for breakfast once we checked it, being that our flight wasn’t until about three hours later.
Checking in at the airport was a breeze with the self-check in kiosk – which we highly recommend – and even included an upgrade to first class for the first leg of our trip. Well, as soon as the lady called us for our luggage she realized that our plane hadn’t even left for PHL yet. Concerned she changed us to a much earlier flight, which was leaving in about 30 minutes. Consequently no breakfast, no time to spare and no first class. Let’s go grab our flight!
Plane Side Note #1: Megan got to sit next to “Mrs. House” on this flight. She was nice and all, but that cane kept getting in the way. Not to mention all the potty breaks that Megan needed to take which caused Mrs. House to continuously have to shuffle around. This shuffling was a v-e-r-y slow process.
Once we got to Dallas we decided to finally get something to eat and oddly enough we were both craving burgers (which unknowingly would haunt us days later). After filling our bellies we decided to grab a cocktail and people-watch until our flight was ready to board.
Onward to Las Vegas!
Plane Side Note #2: Being such a nice guy, Josh decided to let Megan have the window seat while he would sit squished, crunched and uncomfortable in the middle seat. Thinking this couldn’t get any worse, Josh’s new best-friend Ahkmed Ahkmed (yes, that’s his first and last name) took the isle seat. Not only did Ahkmed not speaking any English nor did he look Mexican, Josh decided to hand him the Spanish version of the airlines on-board magazine. We’re pretty sure we’ll see Ahkmed next Sunday at our Dunkin Donuts run before church. Maybe he’ll remember us.
Landed, grabbed our luggage and made our way to find a taxi. Stepping outside, we realized we weren’t in crappy PA weather anymore – we’ve completed our journey to hot-hot Las Vegas. Yes, hot, as in 104 degrees. Anyway, grabbed the taxi – which would be the first of many $20 taxi rides – and headed to our Hotel, Mandalay Bay.
After checking in and putting our luggage up in the room – 30 floors up – it was time for lunch. We were both very hungry again and what better to ease our hunger pain then authentic Mexican food, Dos Equis Amber and lots of Tequila. Enter Border Grill at Mandalay Bay.
After a few beers each, lunch and three shots of Tequila, we decided to enjoy our newly started vacation and take a walk on Las Vegas Blvd. Nothing really worthwhile to write about other then stopping at the M&M and Coke-Cola store, which are both very adorable. One of the neat things about Coke-Cola is that you can order “Tastes from around the World” which is a sampling of 24 flavors of Coke-Cola products from different parts of the world. Most were good, some were okay, a few were confusing and one unmentionable.
Realizing that we were really running three hours ahead of Las Vegas time, we decided to call it a night early so we could enjoy tomorrow. It’s sleepy time.

I believe your vacation was terrific because you were together…… it didn’t really matter what happened around you, because you had a good time together. Try packing a lunch next time! It seemed that all your problems revolved around food, which is a pretty important thing in my book. And Megan….next time it’s Saurbraten or better yet Goulash! And remember…. The “Stars”, all seven of them, work at the buffets or resturants…try the card, may even be free! 🙂
